Paying for care

Financing your dental care

Every office offers third-party financing, subject to credit approval. Here is why the number varies, who each office works with, and exactly what to say when you call.

Why costs vary

Five things that move the number

No treatment has one price. A quote is built from the plan — which is why this site publishes factors, not figures.

  1. The treatment itself

What is being done, and to how many teeth. One filling and a full arch of implants are different projects, and the quote follows the plan.

  2. Materials and lab work

Custom porcelain, implant components, aligner sets, and anything fabricated to your mouth by a lab add cost that a same-day repair does not.

  3. What has to happen first

An exam and X-rays come before any plan. Gum treatment, extractions, or fillings that must precede the main work are part of the real total.

  4. Phasing

Larger plans are often staged over months. That changes when you pay as much as what you pay — and is worth asking about.

  5. Your office's own fees and discounts

Each practice sets its own fees, publishes its own membership discounts, and works with its own lenders. The same treatment is quoted by the office you visit.

Office by office

The options, as each office publishes them

The practices arrange financing independently, so the lender roster — and any promotional terms — depends on the office you visit. Your request goes to the office you choose.

Beachside Dental Group

Huntington Beach — Beachside

Beachside works with CareCredit, Cherry, and Sunbit, with 0% promotional plans of 6–18 months and terms up to 48 months, subject to credit approval.

Pacifica Dental

Huntington Beach — Pacifica

Pacifica works with CareCredit, GreenSky, LendingClub, and iCare Financial, with 0% promotional plans of 6–24 months and terms up to 60 months, subject to credit approval.

Rio Hondo Dental Group

Downey

Rio Hondo works with CareCredit, Cherry, and Sunbit, with 0% promotional plans of 6–18 months, subject to credit approval.

Lender names and promotional periods are as each office publishes them. The lender — not the dental office — decides approval and sets your terms, subject to credit approval.

How to ask

What to say at the front desk

Three sentences cover it. Use them on the phone or at the desk, in this order.

  1. “I'd like to pay over time. Which lenders does this office work with?”

Say it first. Cost is the most common reason people put off care, and the front desk handles this question every day.

  2. “Can I see the treatment plan with costs in writing before I apply?”

A written plan is what you finance. You should know the amount before a lender does.

  3. “Is there a promotional period, and what happens when it ends?”

Several offices publish promotional terms. The lender sets the exact terms at application, subject to credit approval.

Then

You apply with the lender, usually a short application the front desk can help you start. Before treatment begins, read back what was approved — the amount, the term, and any promotional period — so nothing is a surprise.

Without insurance

Two things to check before you finance

  • Your office's membership plan

A flat yearly fee, paid to the office, that covers preventive care and discounts other treatment there. The yearly price is the same at every office; what each plan includes differs, and none are dental insurance. Ask the office whether its membership discount and financing can be used on the same plan.

  • Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal

Rio Hondo Dental Group in Downey is the group's office for Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal patients. If that is your coverage, start there.

Common questions

Financing questions, answered plainly

What if I don't have dental insurance?

You can still be a patient at any of the four offices. No office in the group requires insurance, and two routes keep care affordable without it.

  • Membership plans — a flat yearly fee, paid to your office, that covers exams and cleanings and discounts other treatment. See membership.
  • Financing — third-party lenders that spread treatment cost over monthly payments, subject to credit approval. See financing.

If cost is the thing keeping you from booking, say so when you call — the front desk deals with this question every day. Or start with a appointment request and bring it up at your visit.

How do the membership plans work?

A membership plan is a flat yearly fee paid directly to an office that covers your routine preventive care (exams and cleanings) and discounts other treatment. It is designed for patients without dental insurance, and it is not dental insurance.

The prices match; the plans still differ. All four offices publish the same price tiers — $199, $299, and $399 per year (individual, two people, family). What each plan includes differs by office: Pacifica, for example, includes three cleanings a year instead of two, and discount levels vary.

A plan generally applies only at the office that sold it, so pick your office first, then enroll. Full per-office details are on the membership page — and the office's front desk can confirm current terms when you call.
