Family Dentistry

One dental home for every age (kids' first visits, teens, parents, grandparents) across four Southern California offices, with per-office membership plans, financing, and Denti-Cal accepted at our Downey office.

A dentist talking with a young child at eye level while a parent sits beside them.

Family dentistry means the whole household sees one dental group: toddlers' first visits, kids' checkups, teens' cleanings, parents' crowns, grandparents' dentures. One record, one standard of care, one front desk that knows your family.

Complete Dental Centers practices family dentistry at all four offices — Beachside Dental Group and Pacifica Dental in Huntington Beach, Marina Dentistry in Marina del Rey, and Rio Hondo Dental Group in Downey — the group founded by Dr. Sameer Aljanedi, DDS.

For a busy family the practical differences are real: one office to learn, records that stay put as kids grow into adult care, and a team that can spot family patterns (deep grooves, crowding, gum tendencies) because it sees the whole family.

Each office has its own character. Rio Hondo Dental Group in Downey accepts Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal and serves many Spanish-speaking families — se habla español. Marina Dentistry publishes office hours six days a week, including Saturdays — useful when school and work schedules collide. The two Huntington Beach offices share one building, one phone call apart.

What determines the cost of family dental care

There is no single price for family dentistry, and any site that quotes one is guessing. What your family actually pays depends on a handful of concrete factors:

  • How many family members need only routine care (exams, cleanings, fluoride) versus treatment (fillings, crowns, orthodontics).
  • Each person's gum health — routine cleanings and periodontal maintenance are different services with different costs.
  • X-ray and exam intervals, which follow age and risk rather than a fixed rule.
  • Coverage: dental insurance, Denti-Cal or Medi-Cal (accepted at Rio Hondo in Downey), a membership plan, or self-pay each price the same visit differently.
  • Which office you choose — each publishes its own membership plan and works with its own financing partners.

Two routes keep routine family care affordable without insurance: per-office membership plans that bundle exams and cleanings for a flat yearly fee, and financing through each office's lending partners for larger treatment, subject to credit approval. The plans differ by office — check yours before assuming.

One group for the whole family, or a different office for each?

Families often assemble care piecemeal — a pediatric office for the kids, a general dentist for the parents, a specialist across town. A family practice consolidates that. The honest comparison:

  • One family group: shared records, coordinated scheduling, consistent advice, and easier handoffs as kids age into adult care or a treatment needs a different office in the group.
  • Separate specialists: a dedicated pediatric specialist may suit medically complex children or severe dental anxiety — and we will say so and refer when that is the better path.
  • The middle path: many families keep routine care under one roof and use outside specialists only when a case truly calls for one.

Candidacy

Is it right for you?

Family dentistry fits any household that wants routine and restorative care in one place — parents and kids, multigenerational homes, caregivers coordinating for older relatives.

It is not the answer for every case. Children with complex medical needs, very young children with extensive decay, or severe behavioral challenges may be better served by a dedicated pediatric specialist, and we refer when that is true. Start with an exam and an honest conversation — request an appointment at whichever office suits your family.

Benefits

How this care helps

  • Every age, one standard

From a toddler's first look-and-count visit to denture care, the same group manages it — no re-explaining your family's history at every life stage.

  • Four offices to choose from

Two in Huntington Beach, one in Marina del Rey, one in Downey. Pick by commute, coverage, or schedule — the group behind them is the same.

  • Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal in Downey

Rio Hondo Dental Group accepts Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal, which keeps whole-family care realistic for households that rely on that coverage. Se habla español.

  • Weekend-friendly scheduling

Marina Dentistry publishes office hours six days a week, including Saturdays. Schedules differ by office — check each office page or call.

  • Membership plans for the uninsured

Each office publishes its own flat-fee membership plan covering exams and cleanings — a straightforward route for families without dental insurance.

  • Prevention habits start young

Kids who grow up with routine, low-drama visits tend to stay comfortable patients for life — the cheapest dentistry is the appointment that finds nothing.

The process

How it works

  1. Choose your office

Pick by neighborhood, schedule, or coverage — Denti-Cal families choose Downey; Westside families juggling weekday constraints often choose Marina del Rey and its Saturday hours.

  2. First visits for each member

Adults get a full exam, X-rays as due, and gum measurements. Kids get age-appropriate exams and cleanings paced to their comfort.

    varies by age and history

  3. A family plan, in plain terms

Each person leaves with a clear status: healthy, watch, or treat. Treatment is sequenced by urgency and your budget — not bundled into pressure.

  4. A rhythm that holds

Recall visits are scheduled the way families actually live, and the front desk can help group appointments where the schedule allows — ask.

  5. Care that grows with your kids

Sealants and fluoride in the cavity-prone years, orthodontic evaluations as adult teeth arrive, wisdom-teeth monitoring in the teens — each introduced when timely, not before.

Recovery & risks

What to expect afterward — honestly

Recovery & aftercare

Routine family visits (exams, cleanings, fluoride, sealants) involve no downtime at any age. Kids go back to school and adults back to work directly after.

When a family member needs actual treatment (a filling, an extraction, gum therapy), recovery guidance is specific to that procedure, and you will get it before anything is scheduled.

Risks & limitations

The main risk in family dentistry is not the dentistry — routine preventive care is very low-risk at every age. The risk is drift. Families skip recalls when schedules get hard, and children's decay in particular moves fast: a small cavity in a baby molar can reach the nerve within months. The honest advice is that the interval matters more than any single visit.

Also honest: one group cannot be every specialist. Complex pediatric behavior cases, surgery beyond the group's scope, or rare conditions get referred out — a family dentist's job includes knowing when someone else should treat. And treatment outcomes vary by person; two family members with the same procedure can heal differently.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does family dental care cost?

It depends on what each family member actually needs — routine visits price very differently from treatment, and coverage changes everything. The honest way to find out: book exams, get each person's written plan, and ask the front desk to price it with your coverage before anything is scheduled. For families without insurance, per-office membership plans cover routine care for a flat yearly fee, and financing can spread the cost of larger treatment, subject to credit approval.

We don't have dental insurance. What are our options?

Three realistic routes. Each office publishes a membership plan — a flat yearly fee covering exams and cleanings, with discounts on other care at that office. Each office also works with its own financing partners for larger treatment, subject to credit approval. And households that qualify for Denti-Cal or Medi-Cal can use it at Rio Hondo Dental Group in Downey.

Do you take Denti-Cal or Medi-Cal?

Yes, at one office: Rio Hondo Dental Group in Downey accepts Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal, alongside most PPO and HMO plans, and serves many Spanish-speaking families — se habla español. For the other offices, call and ask about your specific coverage; each office handles insurance questions directly.

What ages do you see?

All of them — from a toddler's first visit (a common guideline: around the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth) through adult and senior care. See pediatric dentistry for how kids' visits work. Children with complex medical or behavioral needs may be referred to a dedicated pediatric specialist when that genuinely serves them better.

Does dental treatment hurt? My kids (and honestly, I) dread it.

Honest answer: routine cleanings and exams are uncomfortable at most, and treatment like fillings is done numb — you feel pressure and vibration, not sharp pain, with some soreness or sensitivity possible afterward. Kids get a slower pace, plain explanations, and breaks when they need them. Anxious patients of any age can ask about sedation dentistry. Telling the team you are nervous is the single most useful thing you can do — the visit gets adjusted, not judged.

Can we come in on a Saturday?

It depends on the office. Marina Dentistry publishes office hours six days a week, including Saturdays — see its office page for the current schedule. Saturday availability at the other offices varies; check each office page or call, since schedules are set office by office.

Can the whole family be seen on the same day?

Often, yes — back-to-back or overlapping appointments are a normal request at a family practice, and the front desk will try to group them. Whether it works on a given day depends on the schedule and on what each person needs, so the honest answer is: ask when you book, and book ahead for the times families want most.

Which office is right for my family?

Choose by geography and coverage. Huntington Beach families have two offices in one building — Beachside and Pacifica. Westside LA families use Marina Dentistry, which publishes six-day hours. Downey and southeast LA County families (including Denti-Cal and Medi-Cal households and Spanish-speaking families) use Rio Hondo Dental Group. Whichever you pick, the group behind it is the same.
